What's On

Update - Friday 7th August, 3pm We’re pleased to share that the situation involving pigeons at Pakenham Marketplace has now been resolved. Today, Nigel’s Animal Rescue , a specialist recommended by the RSPCA attended the centre and successfully released the pigeons into the open air. We extend our sincere thanks to Nigel for his swift and compassionate response, and to our community for their concern throughout this incident. Update -Wednesday 6th August, 1pm We’re aware of the public concern surrounding the recent incident involving a pigeon inside a vacant tenancy at Pakenham Marketplace. We deeply appreciate the community’s care for local wildlife and understand the distress this situation caused. Once the matter was escalated, immediate action was taken to release the pigeon from the tenancy and into the common mall area in the hopes it would make its way outside. While the pigeon is now safe and content and has rejoined two others in the common mall area, we acknowledge that we did not act swiftly enough when first notified. This was an error in judgement, and we as Knight Frank Management accept full responsibility. Centre Management has contacted the RSPCA for assistance and guidance on how to best remove the pigeons from inside the common mall area of the centre; however, they advised that they are unable to support this type of rescue. They have referred us to a specialist provider, who will be attending the centre today, 6th August to assess the pigeons and then arrange options for their relocation into the open air. We can assure our community we are also reviewing our internal processes to ensure future incidents regarding any forms of wildlife in the centre are handled with greater urgency and compassion. We thank the community for their concern, and we remain committed to the wellbeing of all animals in and around our centre.
